Reviews Help Everyone, says Hamilton's Argent Motor Lodge

Some people find them pesky or annoying, some people don’t think they have the time, some people see them as spam. We’re talking about those requests that pop up on your phone or arrive via e-mail, asking guests to review the hotel they’ve just stayed in.
“However, we must not forget that reviews are a very important tool in the community,” says Graeme Hunt, owner of Argent Motor Lodge, on Lorne Street in Hamilton.
“If travellers don’t have a review to help them with their choice, they can’t know what to expect from where they’re staying and it makes it hard for them to plan their stay.”
TripAdvisor is one of the most commonly used review sites for travellers and is user-friendly for the majority of guests. Graeme Hunt says the staff at Argent Motor Lodge, as part of their service, will assist anyone who his unsure how to use it.
“If we have a guest who is perhaps elderly or has trouble using the internet to write a review, we are more than happy to help them with that process,” says Graeme.
“Obviously we remain neutral and don’t tell them what to say. However we do feel it’s important for all our guests to have their voices heard, not just the young, tech-savvy ones.”
A recent survey commissioned by TripAdvisor and conducted by PhoCusWright, showed that hotel and motel guests typically read between six and 12 reviews before booking their accommodation.
The survey showed that when researching places to stay on TripAdvisor, 80 percent of respondents read between six and 12 reviews before making their decision and were most interested in recent reviews with the freshest feedback.
"There is no denying that reviews are a powerful and significant part of the travel planning experience," says Barbara Messing, CMO at TripAdvisor. "The results of this study showcase the vital part reviews play, reinforcing the idea that we are becoming more social as travellers.”
