Palmerston North is a theatre lover's paradise says Chancellor Motor Lodge and Conference Centre

The Palmerston North theatre scene is brimming with both local and international talent. From amateur productions to international show stoppers Palmerston North has it all.

Gillen Smiler, co-owner of Chancellor Motor Lodge and Conference Centre in Palmerston North, has some good advice on where you can find all the glitz and glamour of live theatre. 

For local productions Gillen recommends The Globe Theatre.

The Globe Theatre is a community-owned facility with 200 seats capacity which allows for dramatic performance, music, dance and much more.  “At the Globe Theatre you can find a variety of local and touring arts and cultural events and it is located central to the city and Chancellor Motor Lodge and Conference Centre and only a minute walk from The Square,” says Gillen.

Fully restored to its former glory of the grand old days of theatre, take a step back in time to the 1930’s with The Regent on Broadway “Regent on Broadway is one of New Zealand's finest performing arts venues,” says Gillen.

Gillen recommends checking out Beyond the Barricade. “Theatre lovers are in for a treat with this show,” adds Gillen. Beyond the Barricade comes to the Regent on Broadway on Friday 30 September. Featuring past and principal performers from the prestigious West End's Les Miserables, this is a dazzling concert of musical showstoppers.

A Manawatu icon, the Centrepoint Theatre is the only professional theatre in New Zealand outside of the four main centres of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. “Many New Zealand plays that have been developed and premiered at Centrepoint and have gone on to successful runs nationwide so it’s a great place to see shows before they become highly successful,” advises Gillen.

From the 5-8th October you can see the wildly funny Double Derelicts at the Centrepoint Theatre. “This one is great for the whole family,” adds Gillen.
