Auckland's Unitary Plan will be transformative for the city with proposals allowing enough commercial and industrial development to let business thrive by removing density restrictions enabling the growth and development of new or existing rural towns and villages. This is good news for a company like Candor3, who are in the business of developing high density, affordable housing in the Auckland area.

The Auckland City Council now needs to approve the new unitary plan, for more dense multi-unit developments to be permitted wherever they are within easy walking range of suburban centres and public transport hubs. The plan the hearings panel has recommended makes room for more than 400,000 additional dwellings, meeting Auckland's expected need over the next 30 years. Besides dense development around suburban centres it proposes to push the urban boundary outwards to increase the metropolitan area by 30 per cent.

At Candor3 they believe the most commercially successful projects are the ones that are built for people, and they make better use of resources to deliver quality outcomes and to address the immediate needs of clients and the community, without constraining future opportunities. They also believe that quality environments will maintain their value for years to come, and well-designed spaces will quickly improve a community’s sense of well being and productivity.

It’s this focus on people that their experienced team bring to every project and their clever designs interpret the needs of users, alongside budgets and timelines, which is the key to creating long term value. To this end they are part of the team delivering the innovative Market Cove development in Favona, South Auckland. With circa 1200 apartments and terraced houses to be constructed this is a significant project aimed at providing a mix of much needed affordable housing in Auckland. Sited on the foreshore of the Manukau Harbour facing north the project has tremendous potential and has already received significant publicity.

With the new Unitary Plan finally coming to fruition, Candor3 intends to be part of many more such developments where their experience can be of service to the wider community. For further information on Candor3, please visit the website at http://www.candor3.co.nz
