Greg Murphy coming out of retirement for the Hampton Downs re-opening

WITH THE lead up to Hampton Downs just around the corner, fans are sure to be treated to a trip down memory lane. Four-time Bathurst winner Greg Murphy has announced he is temporarily coming out of retirement for next month's event, driving an Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3 at the inaugural event alongside track owner Tony Quinn.
After announcing his retirement from a long and successful racing career in October 2014, Murphy has stepped away from the competitive racing scene, now spending his time as a television commentator for super cars. With the expansion of Hampton Downs circuit, totalling a cost of $23 million, track owner Tony Quinn has increased the original circuit from its 2.7km circuit by a further kilometre. Murphy’s decision to temporarily come out of retirement comes as the former racing legend couldn’t turn away the opportunity to compete in the first Hampton Downs 101 and the Highlands 101 a fortnight later.
The event is conducted over two days on October 29-30, with the latest in many leading brands such as Audi, BMW, Porsche and Mercedes competing in the event which doubles as the official re-opening of the track since its renovations.
With the upcoming event attracting competitors from different corners of the country, car companies have themselves an opportunity to appeal to the dedicated fan eager to get the wheels to match racing legend Greg Murphy.
