Environment Waikato is to advertise its chief executive’s position in March 2008, five months earlier than required by law.

The Local Government Act requires all councils to consider and publicly advertise their CEO position at least every five years. Chief executive Harry Wilson’s position was due to be considered and advertised by next August.

Chairman Peter Buckley said Mr Wilson had agreed to bring forward the recruitment process.
"We are going through this process early to make sure we have all our key players confirmed and in place as we start developing our next long-term council community plan,” Mr Buckley said.

A recruitment sub-committee comprising chairman Peter Buckley, deputy chairman John Fisher and councillor Laurie Burdett has been established to oversight the initial part of the recruitment process. The committee will recommend a short-list of candidates to the full council to determine the process for final interviews and appointment.
