Viva Expeditions, the most knowledgeable South American tour company, are now offering their ‘Big Five Explorer’ tour, to witness five of the bucket list places in the continent, such as Rio de Janeiro, Machu Picchu, Amazon, Iguazu Falls and Galapagos.

This tour takes in Buenos Aires to Quito in 27 action-packed days, starting with a city tour of Buenos Aires, the birthplace of the famous tango, with an excellent local guide for an overview of the ‘Paris of the South’ and a tango show at night. Next day includes a visit to the Iguazu Falls on the Argentinian side, riding the Rainforest Ecological train and exploring the panoramic views from above and below the waterfalls.

The following day is the chance to see the biggest falls in the world from the Brazilian side of the border, and then on to the city of Rio de Janeiro, to visit the statue of Christ the Redeemer and the famous Sugarloaf Mountain, not to mention Rio’s famous beaches such as Ipanema and Copacabana.

Then it is on to Lima, the Colonial ‘City of Kings’ and the capital of Peru, and subsequently to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. This affords a full day tour to Uros and Taquile Islands, then on to the beautiful city of Cusco, set at an altitude of 3400 metres in the Peruvian Andes to visit the heart of the ancient Incan civilization, Sacred Valley, as well as witness one of the most important archaeological sites in the world, Machu Picchu.

The journey goes on with a visit to the Amazon, the world’s largest tropical rainforest with three days of Amazon activities, continuing on with a city tour of Quito and the Equator. From there the tour flies to the Galapagos Islands, taking in San Cristobal, Española, Floreana and Santa Cruz Islands.

This Viva Expeditions Big Five Explorer tour includes all airport transfers, internal flights, accommodation with breakfast, all inclusive accommodation in the Amazon, tours as stated in the itinerary and other meals where stated, hotels throughout the tour, lodge in the Amazon and cabin on the Galapagos ship.
