Locksmith scams are illegal persons acting as locksmiths. You don't know when you might fall into these scams locksmiths. so always be careful when you're hiring a locksmith, especially when you're in a emergency situation because that's when you're in a hurry and you tend to take decision without thinking.

So before hiring a locksmith, you better do some research about the locksmith you're hiring that they are a legitimate company and they exist. Some people may act as locksmith where they are not. they may have a customer service but out there somewhere no where to be found.  So to avoid hiring such a locksmith, here's some advice you can take to hire the right locksmith.

1. Look for a legit local locksmith: Look for a locksmith from the same town or city you're in and call them and ask them their physical address and ask detailed questions. Also do check their reviews about what others are saying about them.

2. Ask for the locksmiths Identity and license: When the locksmith arrives, ask them for their identification  and their license. You've got the right to ask them. If they refuse to show them their ID's, turn down the job and hire someone else instead of these scams.

3. Ask the locksmith for a lost estimate:  Ask the locksmith for a hourly cost estimate when you're on the phone or when's he is at your home. If they are quoting a very low price, that's a sign that they are probably scam. If their quoting price is reasonable, it's alright. but don't go it for those locksmiths who quote super cheap.

4. Inquire about additional charges: Don't hesitate to ask whether the quoted price is the final price or will there be any additional cost added after the job is done. If there's any additional cost, ask what's the reason of the additional cost.

5. Watch out for any increase in the price: when the locksmith arrives, confirm with him about the quoted price and ask that he will be agreeing to the same price. If he agrees, then go ahead with your work if not, don't allow the work to be done.

6. Don't let the locksmith drill your lock: If you're locked out, be alerted of those locksmiths who recommends that the door needs to be drilled. Typically drilling is only done on big commercial locks or open high security locks. Most locksmiths should be able to open your home doors without drilling if they're skilled.

7. Question to ask a locksmith before hiring: Here's some question you can ask a locksmith before hiring them. If they can't provide detailed information, don't hire them. If you do, you'll get scammed.
1. Where are you located?
2. How will you get into my house? will you need to drill my lock? can you tell me the exact process.
3. Do you need a picture of the lock?
4. Can you give me a estimate? what factors will cause the price to change?
5. Do you require cash or can i pay with a card?
6. What's the name of the locksmith who will be coming to do the job?
