Dunedin Police have attended a large number of motor accidents the result of drivers not driving to the conditions this morning.

One person has been hospitalised after a two vehicle collision on Wharf Street.

Police are surprised that the male driver was not more seriously hurt and was able to walk away.

A DCC utility vehicle was extensively damaged in the crash, with its back axle being ripped off.

Road conditions are treacherous due to the steady rain following the prolonged dry spell.

Slow down. Drive to the conditions. Don't crash.

If you come across a crash scene don't 'rubber neck'.

Driver inattention poses a substantial risk to emergency services personnel involved in the crash scene management.
