On the 15th of December 2007 at approximately 9.00pm a search operation commenced for an elderly man who wandered off from Kowhai Manor Rest Home in Greymouth.
The missing man, Thomas Pinn was last seen wearing a pair of blue pyjamas and a brown/tan cardigan with black shoes.
Local volunteer search teams along with police have been searching the town through the night. A search dog has also been used to search large industrial and open areas.
Police are appealing for any sightings of Mr. Pinn last evening, and also for local residence in the greater Greymouth area to check their sections, sheds, cars etc...
When last seen Mr. Pinn was in a confused state, and as a result fears are held for his safety.
At approximately 11.30am missing Greymouth man, Thomas Pinn was located at a private address in Greymouth.
Mr Pinn had become disorientated and wandered away from his rest home last night. A search involving up to 20 local SAR volunteers from Greymouth, Westport and Hokitika scoured the town last night without success.
The search also included the use of a trained Land SAR dog from Hokitika.
Mr Pinn was located at an address after he sought shelter in a vehicle overnight. He was dry and warm despite overnight rain and did not require any medical attention.
He has been returned to his residence and reunited with his family.
