Comment is being sought on a draft concept plan for Roy’s Bay boat ramp and parking area, Wanaka, Queenstown Lakes District Council community services committee chairman Leigh Overton said.

“We have already allocated budget to undertake stage one, which involves the regrade and chip seal of the area adjacent to the launching ramps and hope to have that underway around March,” Councillor Overton said. The refurbishment of the Roys Bay toilet would also be undertaken in January.

However the council and Wanaka Community Board wanted to hear from the community on the proposed further stages, two to four.

“That involves walkway options, the construction of a new jetty to the west of the boat ramps and land reclamation and the extension of the car and trailer park,” Mr Overton said.

The key objectives of the proposal was improved maneuvering and waiting at the marina entrance, improved boat launching, enhanced and safer pedestrian passage through the marina and increased trailer parking capacity.

The plans were now available at the Wanaka council office on Ardmore Street or could be viewed on the council website www.qldc.govt.nz from tomorrow (Wednesday).

Comment should be in writing and sent to general manager community services, Private Bag 50072, Queenstown 9348, emailed to services@qldc.govt.nz, or dropped into the Wanaka council office.

Comment would close on Friday, 1 February, 2008.
