Applications are now open for The Trusts Secondary School Scholarship programme that gives young musicians considering a career as a professional orchestral musician the opportunity to play with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

Scholarship recipients receive eight one-on-one lessons with an APO musician in preparation for playing with the orchestra at its Kiwi Kapers concerts in October. Scholars are also offered leadership opportunities at Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra youth events throughout the year.

There are seven scholarship places available, including one specifically for a Maori or Pacific Island musician.

Last year’s scholars took part in a wide range of activities, culminating in performing to over 6,000 people in the Aotea Centre, THE EDGE.

Applicants are required to provide letters of support from the head of music of their school as well as their current instrumental music teacher.

The Secondary School Scholarship programme is funded by The Trusts Charitable Foundation and is part of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s extensive education programme.

Application forms are available now from www.apo.co.nz under Education. The closing date for applications is March 1st.
