TAUPO

A memorial service will be held in Taupo tonight for a British tourist

found dead in the town under suspicious circumstances yesterday.

Police from across the North Island have been brought in to assist in Operation Waikato, the investigation into how Karen Elizabeth Aim, 26, of the Orkney Isles, Scotland, died.

Miss Aim was found by Police lying critically injured in the intersection of Waikato and Motutahae streets shortly after 2am and died in Taupo Hospital a short time later.

The officers who found the injured woman had been called to reports of damage to the nearby Taupo-Nui-A-Tia College and found her during their area search.

Enquiry head, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner, said a memorial service will be held at the scene at 6pm tonight.

Following this the enquiry team will be carrying out an extensive canvas of Taupo bars to try and find people who may have been in contact with Miss Aim before she died.

Police have released a photograph of Miss Aim and hope anyone who may recognise her from Wednesday night or early Thursday morning will come forward.

Further photos are expected to be available at a press conference to be held at Taupo Police station at 2.30pm today.
