CROMWELL

The Cromwell Water Treatment Plant suffered a pump failure over the hot weekend.

A bore pump at the plant failed beyond immediate repair.

This resulted in storage volumes quickly dropping to emergency levels yesterday.

Backup systems are currently in place and meeting demand.

However, in order to re-establish satisfactory storage volumes, the level of water restrictions have been raised.

The water restrictions in Cromwell and Bannockburn have been raised to a complete sprinkler ban.

This allows for handheld irrigation only.

Cromwell Water Treatment Plant has been running very long hours, producing record volumes so far this summer.

The increase in the level of restrictions will allow water storage levels to recover to normal.

This restriction will remain in place until further notice.
