BAY OF PLENTY

It’s a great challenge – its fun, it’s picturesque and it’s fast!

Entries are already flowing in for this legendary road cycling event which takes competitors on a fast, fun and scenic 100km journey from one world famous tourist destination to another.

Cyclists have the option of riding solo or in relay teams of two/three with drink/aid stations provided along the way.

Open to anyone with a bike - the event hosted 3500 riders in 2007 and the organisers are expecting to exceed 4000 riders for 2008.

Event Director Murray Fleming said “Due to the continued increase in competitor numbers and to improve safety we introduced a new course two years ago which is relatively flat, fast and very scenic. It is ideal as it gives the elite cyclists the opportunity to achieve a personal best time over this distance and is also very achievable for the growing number of people tackling their first event.

The 2008 event will be held on Saturday 5 April. Starting outside The Kingsgate Hotel, Rotorua and travels south through the magic thermal and rural countryside before finishing at the Taupo Events Centre. Cyclists and spectators can even enjoy a hot swim at the adjoining AC Baths facility.

An important component of this event is the chance for riders to raise money, if they wish, for the nominated charity, Cancer Research or for a charity of their choice.

As an added incentive all competitors are eligible to win over $100,000 in spot prizes and giveaways, including fantastic Avanti bikes, a Suzuki scooter, a Q-Kayak, coffee machines, home trainers and a chance for two riders to win trips to Adelaide to take part in the Tour Down Under – the highest ranking cycle race in the Southern Hemisphere.

Don’t miss out; make sure you are part of this fantastic event. Entry forms are available now from your local bike shop or you can enter online at the Event Promotions website www.eventpromotions.co.nz , email info@eventpromotions.co.nz  or phone (07)378 0455.
