Nelson's Fresh Choice Collingwood Street Trolley Derby won't just have action on the streets this year - there'll be action in the sky as well. The Royal New Zealand Air Force Red Checkers will be based at Motueka for a training session and have agreed to a fly past over Collingwood St, starting at 2pm. There will be six aircraft doing formation aerobatics for 14 minutes,

Event Director Antony Hodgson says the Red Checkers are a real coup - but they're not the only out of towners: "We are expecting last year's Style Meister winners the Replica Auto Union and Bugatti back again from Christchurch," he said, "and there is a lot of interest in whether Sam Laidlaw will hold onto the title of Monarch of the Hill having clocked record breaking speeds in recent time trials."

Antony expects over sixty entries in the trolley derby and a crowd of over 4-thousand: "It's an event that's a traditional crowd pleaser - it celebrates backyard ingenuity combined with speed - an irresistible mix for young and old."

The heats are held early and spectators are assured of an action packed finale. There will be crowd giveaways from V and Popsicle and sponsored prizes in each event. Organisers make every effort to make this event safe for participants and spectators. Trolleys will be inspected at registration. Spectators are asked to stay behind the barriers at all times.

The Nelson City Council produces the Summer Festival to create community events for locals and to enhance the experience of visitors to the city.
