Patel called into BLACKCAPS squad as cover

Jeetan Patel has been called into the BLACKCAPS ahead of The National Bank Twenty20 international against England in Auckland on Tuesday (5 February) as cover for Daniel Vettori.

BLACKCAPS captain Vettori sustained an injury to his right ankle training on Thursday with State Northern Knights.

“The injury has ruled Daniel out of the State Twenty20 final. He will join the BLACKCAPS when they assemble in Auckland tomorrow, where he will be assessed by medical staff,” said Lindsay Crocker, BLACKCAPS general manager.

“A decision on his availability will be made next week, ahead of the opening game of the England tour at Eden Park.

“Brendon McCullum will captain the team should Daniel not be available.”
