At about 10.40am on Sunday 3/2/08 Police were advised of a 7 metre boat that had capsized at the Taieri river mouth, south of Dunedin.

5 adult people had been onboard, 3 males and 2 females.

A helicopter along with surf rescue was dispatched from Dunedin, in addition to local boats.

4 people were rescued initially but one, a male in his 40's, was trapped under the overturned boat.

A commercial diver was used to rescue the male and has been airlifted to Dunedin hospital.

The other 4 were also taken to Dunedin hospital.

At this stage their condition is unknown and Dunedin police will be making further enquiries at the hospital in relation to the circumstances of the accident.
