Grammy award winning violinist to perform in Auckland

AUCKLAND

Canadian violinist James Ehnes, who has just won his first Grammy Award, will perform with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in September.

Mr. Ehnes won the Instrumental Soloist Performance (With Orchestra) Grammy for his CD of works by Barber, Korngold and Walton recorded with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra with conductor Bramwell Tovey.

Mr. Ehnes will perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the APO at its Star Serenade concert on Thursday 4th September at the Auckland Town Hall, THE EDGE as part of the orchestra’s APN News & Media Premier Series.

“The APO is proud to attract some of the world’s best performers to Auckland and James Ehnes can certainly be considered amongst the world’s best having garnered wide critical acclaim for both his recordings and concert performances,” says APO Chief Executive, Barbara Glaser. “We congratulate James on winning his first Grammy Award and look forward to welcoming him to New Zealand for the first time in September.”

The APN News & Media Premier Series opens next week on Thursday 21st February at the Auckland Town Hall, THE EDGE with Playing With Fire featuring acclaimed Lithuanian pianist Mûza Rubackyté and conductor Christian Knapp.
