With space still left in its current contract for 79 ‘Healthy Homes’ the council is now seeking more applications.

So far 66 homes have been insulated in this financial year and applications

must be in well before the end of June advises spokesperson Anne Hilson.

The scheme applies to houses built before 1977 and whose owners or occupiers are eligible for a Community Services card.

Tenants with, or eligible for a Community Services card are also eligible if the landlord is prepared to pay $500 towards the cost of insulation.

The average value of work done is around $3000 depending on the size of the house and the requirements.

The ‘Healthy Homes’ initiative kick started by the Energy Efficient Conservation Authority (EECA) and assisted by the council has been a success story in Tararua since it started four years ago.

Application forms are available at all council service centres or contact Anne Hilson (06 3744080) for more information.
