At about 8.30pm on Thursday the 21st of February emergency services were called to a double fatality on state highway 94.
The crash involved a head-on between a stock truck and a ford falcon motor car.
The stock truck was travelling towards Riversdale.
The ford falcon motorcar was travelling towards Gore.
The falcon contained four occupants.
The driver and a passenger of this car have died at the scene.
The two other occupants are uninjured.
The driver and passenger have not yet been named but are believed to be in the early 20's and locals to Mataura.
The male truck driver was uninjured.
Early indications from the attending investigators were that the falcon was in the wrong lane whilst negotiating a corner.
All factors will be taken into account by the serious crash investigators during the scene examination.
State highway 94 remains closed as at 10.00 pm for a scene investigation and will remain so until the scene has been marked and forensically examined by investigators.
The names of the deceased pair are unavailable as next of kin have still to be advised.
