STRATFORD

The Stratford District Youth Council is crossing their fingers in the hopes of good weather for this Sunday 2 March: Family Movie Day.

The day is Children’s Day, and this event is aimed at families looking to spend quality time together. Chairman Jayne Gulliver says, “we’ve been planning for a long time and we don’t have a backup date, so we’re really wishing hard that everything can go ahead.”

Family Movie Day is the first event of its kind, and will see the gigantic TSB Bank Superscreen placed in Victoria Park. From 3pm there will be plenty of games and activities, including Nintendo Wii games on the Superscreen. Then from 6pm Disney’s classic family movie The Lion King will play, with the intention that families either bring a picnic tea, or purchase a sausage on the day.

This entirely outdoor event is completely dependent on the weather. Jayne says, “if the ground is mushy the truck that pulls the TSB Bank Superscreen can’t move. But because of the dry weather recently we should be sweet. If it’s raining on the day then the TSB Bank Superscreen can’t have the cover off, though, so we will have to cancel.”

Should the event be cancelled, the announcement will be made on MoreFM as early as possible.

Jayne says, “put the date down in your diaries anyway. If we all want it to be dry, it will be!”
