The renovations and upgrade at the Taupo Library in Story Place will be finished shortly allowing the Library to move back home.

For the last nine months the Taupo Library has been situated at a temporary location in Totara Street to provide library users a full service whilst construction works were carried out on the library building.

From 1 March through to 20 March the library will be closed whilst the Library team move all of the books back to Story Place and set up the library. Librarians will be allowing library users to take out extra books for an extended period, so they don’t run out of reading material during the closure.

Taupo Library Manager Philip van Zijl said his team were very excited about “moving back home” to Story Place. “We really appreciate the community support we have received and we are all looking forward to seeing the new and improved library up and running,” he said.

The extension and upgrade will provide library users with a more efficient and user-friendly space and additional services including improved research and technology facilities, an improved children’s resource area and more recreation and reading spaces.

Mayor Rick Cooper said that he was really excited about some of the new initiatives being introduced at the library, especially the youth orientated activities. “It will be great to see such a cutting edge facility in Taupo which will ensure we achieve the current library requirements for Taupo’s population size and put us in a position to cater for future growth in the District,” he said.

Once moved in, the Taupo Library will be having a blessing and official opening ceremony at Story Place on Thursday 20 March, with it opening to the public later that day.
