The final addition to Wairarapa’s brand new bus fleet is now up and running, giving Wairarapa bus passengers a greatly enhanced service.

The buses, operated by Wairarapa Coachlines and Tranzit, are part of Metlink – Greater Wellington’s public transport network.

Rob Braddock, Greater Wellington’s Contract and Quality team leader, says the four brand new buses have more seating and are more accessible for people in wheelchairs and parents with buggies.

“We’re confident that these buses, with their sleek, modern look and ease of access, will encourage more people to leave their cars at home and take the bus from Featherston to Martinborough, for example.

“Our aim is to make public transport as convenient and comfortable as possible, and we have taken significant steps towards that in Wairarapa with the new buses and trains, improved bus services and station upgrades.

Wairarapa bus services now include:
- A seven-day service between Martinborough and Masterton, via Featherston, Greytown and Carterton
- A five-day service for the Masterton town bus
- More bus services to Wairarapa Hospital
- More ticket choices
- More services between Martinborough and Featherston, connecting with all trains to and from Wellington
- New weekday off-peak bus / train connections linking Greytown (via Featherston Station) with Wellington.
