The regular vandalism of developer Dave Henderson’s Five –mile signage at Frankton has become tiresome and offensive,” Queenstown Lakes District Mayor Clive Geddes said.

Several versions of the sign had been splattered with paint over the last two years. With each new replacement of the signage came a fresh paint attack.

“Enough is enough. I think people are starting to feel heartily sick of this repeated vandalism. It’s high time for the perpetrator to give it a rest,” Mr Geddes said.

Neither the council nor the community could stomach any form of vandalism, let alone recidivist vandalism, targeting the same sign over and over.

“It’s time for whoever is responsible to move on,” Mr Geddes said.

The signage was in a high profile area right at the gateway to Queenstown.

“Visitors to the town don’t care or understand the politics, whatever they may be, but for the last two years they have been greeted by a large vandalised sign, what kind of message is that?” Mr Geddes said.

No matter what people thought of the project, Mr Henderson was entitled to, and had consent to erect a Five-mile sign.

“This is a direct message to the person or persons involved, you’ve made your point now give us all a break” Mr Geddes said.
