The renovations and upgrade at the Taupo Library in Story Place are nearly complete and the enhanced library will be open to the public from 1pm Thursday 20 March.

For the last ten months the Taupo Library has been situated at a temporary location in Totara Street to provide library users a full service whilst construction works were carried out on the library building. The team is currently in the process of moving back in to Story Place in time for the opening next Thursday.

An official opening ceremony and blessing will be held prior to the library opening to the public. Rt. Hon Prime Minister Helen Clark will be doing the honours by unveiling the plaque to officially open the upgraded library, with Mayor Rick Cooper, Councillors, Friends of the Library and other officials in attendance.

The extension and upgrade of the Taupo Library will provide library users with a more efficient and user-friendly space and additional services, including improved research and technology facilities, an improved children’s resource area and more recreation and reading spaces. The upgrade will also ensure we achieve the current library requirements for Taupo’s population size, and put us in a position to cater for future growth in the District.

Taupo Library Manager Philip van Zijl thanks the community for their support and patience during the last ten months and encourages the public to get down and check out the new and improved services at the library from next Thursday onwards.
