At approximately 4.20 pm on the 13th March 2008 a boat carrying workers from the sewage pipeline outlet off Sumner Beach to the Sumner Boat Ramp flipped throwing 9 persons into the sea.

The Sumner Life boat responded and pulled all nine persons from the water.

All persons were wearing lifejackets and were spread out between 500 to 600 metres, from the beach out towards the centre of the bay.

No one was injured during the rescue and the boat is currently being salvaged.
