The Far North District Council has come out in support of an innovative Kerikeri community project designed to raise funds for Hospice Bay of Islands.

The "Project H" initiative seeks to build and sell a house in just four days. The completed home will be publicly auctioned and the profits donated to the local hospice.

The council will waive over $2000 in fees associated with the building work as its contribution to the worthy cause.

"Project H" is an initiative drawn together by a group of Kerikeri business people as a way to give something significant to the community without personal reward, while at the same time bringing the business community together in a project with a common goal.

All local businesses are being approached with a request to donate building materials, products and expertise to ensure the house is completed to a very high standard. Hospice was selected by the project team as the beneficiary because of the organisation's humanitarian involvement in the community and because hospice activities are not confined by boundaries such as age, nationality, financial status, gender or disease.

The project team intends to start construction on a site adjoining the BP Service Station at Kerikeri on 17 April and to have the house ready for auction on 20 April.
