Police vehicle involved in serious crash

At about 6.45pm on Tuesday 25th March 2008 a police vehicle was involved in a collision with a truck at the intersection of Kapiro and Purerua Road, Kerikeri.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and the driver of the police vehicle was cut from his marked patrol car and later transported to Whangarei hospital by air ambulance.

The condition of the police officer is described as serious but stable. He remains in the Whangarei area hospital.

The driver of the truck was checked by ambulance staff at the scene and did not require futher treatment.

Serious crash investigators from Whangarei attended the accident scene. A police investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the crash.

Northland police would like to thank members of the public and emergency services staff who assisted at the scene of the crash.
