5am Due to a corrisive chemical spillage a section of State Highway One (SH1) north of Putaruru is currently closed.

Chemicals being carried by a truck have spilt and leaked onto the road for a fifty metre length.

A property adjacent to the spillage has been evacuated as a precaution.

Whites Road and Webster Road border the spillage scene and are being used as the diversion roads.

It is expected that SH1 will be cleared by 6.30am.
