LIBRARY Manager, Simon Johnson, is confident there will be “plenty for everyone” when the Feilding Public Library’s ninth annual book sale is held next week.

About 4000 books, including many excellent children’s titles, are being sorted for the five-day sale opening at 10am on Monday, March 31.

Mr Johnson said a wide variety of popular fiction and mainstream non-fiction publications were also included in the sale, as well as a number of videos.

“With most children’s books priced at only 50c, the sale will be a good way for families to build up a library in their kids’ bedrooms,” he said.

Travel, gardening and cooking topics are again likely to attract readers, as well as some specialised New Zealand non-fiction.

Mr Johnson said most of the books on offer had not been issued for the past year.

“They are being replaced by newer books of the same type, so that’s why there is a lot of popular material on sale as it’s readily available.”

He said the library wanted to ensure its collection of 65,000 books was fresh and up-to-date and that led to the annual cull.

“People soon notice if stocks are starting to look tired and we don’t want that to happen.”

The sale will run from Monday to Friday during the library’s normal operating hours of 10am to 5.30pm and up to 7.30pm on Wednesday. Any books left over by Saturday will be free.

Mr Johnson said a large number of people visited the library during sale week and he anticipated another eager queue outside the doors on the first morning.

Other sale prices are $1 for fiction, $2 for most non-fiction and $5 for good quality, coffee table-sized publications.

Money raised will be used to purchase new stock. Last year’s sale yielded $4500.
