Tauranga Boys College student Ash Hough, and Onslow College’s Samara Sheppard won the overall Under 19 grade after 3 events at the NZCT New Zealand Secondary Schools Mountain Bike Championships.

In a repeat of the Cross Country results on Saturday, Hough and Sheppard comfortably won the Hill Climb to give them a healthy lead on the overall points table ahead of the downhill competition.

Aari Barrett (Hastings Boys High School) continued his outstanding form that he showed at the Subaru National Downhill and Oceania Championships by winning the Under 19 boys Downhill. Close behind Aari was the rapidly improving Matt Walker from Trident High School.

The 2.5km Hill climb results mirrored those of the Cross Country in all of the younger age categories and it was left to the downhill on Sunday afternoon to decide the overall placings for the weekend.

With over 540 riders partaking in the New Zealand Secondary Schools event, the future of Cross Country and Downhill Mountain biking in New Zealand is looking very bright indeed.
