Council is undertaking a project to scan and electronically store all its building consent records (‘packets’).

Building packets contain all the building consent information for individual properties and are often sought by owners, developers, potential owners or real estate agents.

Manager customer services Abby Hemopo said the council’s intention was to preserve the original documents - in case of loss or fire – and for them to be available for on line viewing.

“This means the council will eventually be offering a more convenient, user friendly process,” she said.

Meanwhile there will be two options available to anyone wishing to view building packets.

Packets can be viewed for free at the Dannevirke service centre or alternatively a request to view a copy of the information can be made at any council office or by telephone.

This will take up to five working days to produce.

Miss Hemopo said the new process would be effective from May 19.
