WEST COAST

Senior Sergeant Stu Koefoed, Acting Area Commander for the West Coast, states that Police have launched an investigation into a serious assault on an elderly Dobson man.

Police were advised that a 74 yr old Dobson man had been found by neighbours in his house overnight where he lived alone.

He was found with serious head injuries which were not consistent with an accident and there were signs of suspicious activity within the address.

The man, who is not able to be named until next of kin have been identified and advised, was taken to Grey Base Hospital where he was stabilised before being flown to Wellington Public Hospital where he is undergoing surgery.

Senior Sergeant Koefoed appealed for anyone with any information relating to this mater to please contact Greymouth Police on 03-7681600.

Detectives, ESR and Forensics staff are on site presently examining the scene.
