Unique city collaboration delivers Hamilton Alcohol Accord

A unique initiative designed to deliver a safer, more consistent and vibrant entertainment industry for the city will be unveiled today. The launch of the Hamilton Alcohol Accord is the product of a unique collaborative project between the city's liquor licensees, The Police, Health Waikato and Council.

The Accord's purpose is to agree a consistent industry approach to responsible and quality practises where the sale and consumption of liquor is involved. This will be achieved by all consenting licensees and agencies embracing a series of key principles that focus on themes of sustainability, safety, responsibility and co-operation.

Hamilton mayor Bob Simcock says that the initiative is evident of the entertainment industry's significant pride in its reputation and strong ownership of its responsibilities.

"The Hamilton Liquor Accord give's residents and visitors alike increased confidence in our city's entertainment offering with regards to safety and consistency. The initiative will significantly enhance the city's reputation for having a vibrant, welcoming and safe entertainment zone.

"There are 287 liquor licences citywide in Hamilton and today Council will sign the Accord along side of 50 of some of the most prominent licensed operators. This gratifying given we are yet to kick into communication of the Accord in earnest, therefore I look forward to seeing many more industry players coming on board in the near future."
