The South Island is one of the eight finest trout fishing destinations in the world according to Singapore Airlines.

In the August 2008 issue of Singapore Airlines inflight magazine, Silver Kris, which has a monthly readership averaging 1.6 million people on over 2500 flights the South Island is featured as one of the best places to haul in a colossal brown trout. In a 2-page article titled "where to land the Big One" fishing guide Eric Stoup from Pennsylvania says that the South Island is a "land of many streams and rivers" and that anglers are "free to access nearly all of them". His pick of the rivers from New Zealand is the Motueka River in the Nelson region for its fine brown trout fishing and stunning scenery.

The article includes a photo of New Zealand fishing guide Steve Carey and Australian visitor Val Young with a superb brown trout, and directs readers to New Zealand's premier fly fishing website www.nzfishing.com for more information.
