Police Officer crushed by car in Henderson

A Waitakere Police Constable has sustained serious injuries after being hit and crushed against a Police car by a vehicle the patrol stopped.

The Waitakere Patrol stopped the vehicle on Swanson Road in Henderson at about 11pm on Wednesday the 30th of July.

As the Constable approached the driver side of the vehicle the driver reversed the vehicle hitting the Constable and crushing her between the patrol car and the reversing vehicle.

The offending driver has then driven off and stopped about 200 meters from the crash scene.

First aid was immediately provided by the Constables partner who was driving the patrol car.

Additional Police units and an ambulance arrived within minutes to treat the injured Constable and deal with the offender who had remained stopped further along the road.

The female Constable was taken to Auckland Hospital and is being treated for a broken pelvis and lower back injury. She is currently in a stable condition under going further tests and treatment.

The offending driver has under gone Breath Testing procedures at the Henderson Police Station. He will be appearing in the Waitakere District Court today facing Excess Breath Alcohol and serious driving charges.
