From 14 -16 August 2008, the Council and Community Expo ‘Our Neighbourhood, Our Future’ is being held at the Great Lake Centre. Entry is free and the doors will be open from 10am – 4pm daily.

The EXPO is another opportunity for Council to speak to as many people as possible to collect ideas, dreams and aspirations for the future of the Taupo District.

There will be something for everyone at the Expo – there is a youth area, a community art exhibition, competitions and prizes up for grabs and lots to learn about our neighbourhoods and the future of the Taupo District.

The feedback from the expo will help Council to identify what needs to be included in ‘Towards 2019’ the District’s ten year plan.

“I will be there with some of my fellow councillors to hear what is important for you and your family. So come along, bring the whnau and help Council to shape the future of our District,” said Mayor Rick.

A number of key Council projects and activities will be on display alongside over 40 community groups and organisations including the NZ Police and Fire Service, Wairoa House, TownCentre Taupo, Sport Waikato, Waiariki Institute of Technology, Environment Waikato, Taupo Venues, Tkwharetoa Mori Trust Board and more.

The Taupo District Ambassadors who are busy collecting feedback leading up to the expo, have been hitting the streets around Taupo, Turangi and Mangakino over the last couple of weeks speaking to people about what makes great neighbourhoods.

Deputy CEO Anne McLeod said hundreds of questionnaires have already been completed. “If you see the Ambassadors out and about make sure you take the time to have your say about the future of the District.”

Mayor Rick Cooper said the Expo provides an opportunity for Councillors to connect with the community and involve them with the Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP). “The ten year plan – ‘Towards 2019’ is our flagship document and we want to make sure we are providing a vision that is representative of what our communities want, for their neighbourhoods and the future of the Taupo District.”
