At 7-20 am today Saturday 16 August 2008 ski field staff preparing to head off to work discovered the body of a 22 year old male on the foreshore of Lake Wanaka near the intersections of Dungarvon and Ardmore Streets.
Officer in charge of the enquiry Detective Dave Evans of the Wanaka CIB said that the deceased has been identified and has been living and working in Wanaka for some time. He is a New Zealander.
Police are making enquiries to locate and advise next of kin and have also been speaking with associates of the deceased.
Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the death and the matter has been reported to the Coroner.

Police have today named the 22 year old Wanaka man whose body was discovered on the foreshore of Lake Wanaka at about 7-20 am on Saturday 16 August 2008.
He was Ryan Joseph ALEXANDER. Police understand Mr Alexander has lived and worked in Wanaka for the last three and a half years.
Officer in charge of the enquiry into the death, Detective Dave Evans of the Wanaka CIB, is keen to hear from anyone who might have seen or spoken to Mr Alexander after he left a function at the Trout Bar late on Friday evening.
