WANAKA

Today 28.08.08 at approximately 1:00pm New Zealand Police received a phone call from a male claiming there was an explosive device in the New World supermarket Wanaka.

The area was cordoned off and the supermarket was evacuated for approximately 2 hours while an investigation ensued and located the initial caller.

As a result a 42 year old local male has been arrested and dealt with by mental health.

There was no explosive device located and the supermarket was cleared for business around 3pm.

Police thank the Wanaka volunteer Fire Brigade for their assistance in this matter with cordons road closures and equipment.

We also thank the members of the public that were affected for their patience and compliance.
