Train and car Crash in Southern District, 10:20pm 7 Sep 2008

BLENHEIM

Police and fire services attended the scene of a motor crash where a vehicle was struck by a Northern bound train.
The location was approximately 5km North of Blenheim.
The vehicle was travelling in an eastern direction through the railway crossing. There are no barrier arms, only warning lights.
Fire services used the Jaws of Life to cut the occupants from the vehicle.
The 17 year old driver was taken to Wairau hospital for treatment for moderate injuries.
The 18 year old passenger was transported to Wellington and is in a stable but serious condition.
The incident is being investigated further by Police and Rail. T.A.I.C.
The next of kin have been advised.

 This is a terrible Accident, The 18 year old male was a close friend and will be sadley missed.

He always had a smile on his face and a bubbly personality great all round guy.

My thoughts are with his friends and family.
