STRATFORD

The annual Greats and Grands Poetry Competition was held in Stratford this week, with another great turnout.

The competition is an opportunity for children to write a poem about their grandparent or great-grandparent to celebrate International Day of the Older Person.

Event organiser Raewyn Gordon says “this event is an excellent chance to celebrate grandparents, with a focus on accentuating the positive role they play in the lives of young people.”

The morning tea was well-attended, with musical performances from members of the Stratford District Youth Council, and tea and nibbles for everyone.

Winning poet Jack Manley, age 6, wrote the following about his grandmother:

“Grandma is cool

Grandma is great

Grandma is young, she is 68!

Grandma is funny

Grandma is like my mummy

Grandma is not a dummy!

Grandma has lollies

Grandma tells jollies

Grandma is great, she is my mate!

Thank you grandma.

I love you.”
