Taupo District Council has appointed interim members to the Lake Taupo Tourism Advisory Board to provide advice to Council on destination marketing and management.

Council’s process of appointing members to the Lake Taupo Tourism Advisory board was extended as a result of the Taupo District Visitor Industry Forum held in early October.

A number of issues that require further investigation were raised at the forum and the Council has taken the step of appointing an interim board in order to maintain work while these issues are worked through.

The membership of the interim board includes seven nominees from visitor industry organisations including: Keith Crate Taupo Events Management Group; Fritz Fröhlke - Chamber of Commerce; Kathy Guy – Tourism Lake Taupo; Carl Hankin – Lake Taupo Accommodation Association; Jim Hill – Central North Island Maori Tourism; Chris Johnston – Towncentre Taupo; Garth Oakden – Turangi Tongariro Promotional Association, and two existing independent members Edwin Brown and David Cullwick who bring an independent perspective on the local industry from outside the Taupo District.

The interim board has been appointed allowing it to continue to work with the visitor industry throughout the period that Council will be consulting on its ten-year plan - ‘Towards 2019’. It will also work with Enterprise Lake Taupo and members of the visitor industry to review issues and ideas raised at the forum.
