Two Taupo builders have received national acclaim after winning a number of awards in the Registered Master Builders 2008 House of the Year competition.

The winning Taupo builders had entries in categories for sustainable homes and received their awards during a national gala dinner in Auckland last Friday [28 November]. The event was attended by Minister for Building and Construction Maurice Williamson and more than 700 builders and industry leaders.

Haimes Building Ltd won the title for ‘Sustainable Homes over $1million’ and the ‘GIB Living Solutions Award’ for a property in Wharewaka Point. Future Homes NZ Ltd won the ‘Department of Building and Housing Sustainable Homes under $500,000’ title as well as the ‘Pink® Batts® Ultra® Energy Efficiency Award’ for a property in Acacia Bay.

The Registered Master Builders House of the Year is New Zealand’s premier residential and commercial building awards programme. The awards recognise excellence, quality and innovation in building work. The judges don’t focus on the quality of the fittings or the design. Instead they are interested in how the job has been executed.
