NORTHLAND

Perennial champions and former national representatives Jaron Mumby and Chris Scott (Fitzroy) dominated the North Island BP IRB championships in Waipu Cove, Northland, yesterday.

The Taranaki pair won three of the four premier men's events, taking out the mass rescue, assembly rescue and single rescue titles.

Only Muriwai's Andrew Lancaster and Ashley Matuschka were able to break Fitzroy's dominance, winning the tube rescue title.

The St Clair women's crew of Carla Laughton and Stephanie Lawton were nearly as dominant, taking home the mass rescue and single rescue titles and finishing second behind East End's Laura Begg and Kirsty May in the tube rescue.

St Clair were also third in the assembly rescue, with only Muriwai's Jessica Limbrick and Melody Edwards, and Kariotahi's Natasha Dickson and Mare Haitsma finishing ahead of them.

Taranaki club East End's victory in the open team's race, and their strong performance through the senior and under-21 grades, was enough to give it the overall club title with 57 points, heading home Muriwai (51) and Paekakariki (44).
