Environment Waikato and the local council are introducing a new holiday season Coromandel bus service connecting Hot Water Beach, Hahei Beach, Cooks Beach and Ferry Landing.

The buses, which will be operated by EW between Boxing Day (26 December) and Waitangi Day (6 February), are to be paid for by Thames Coromandel District Council.

“These 28-seater buses are designed to help provide a hassle free summer for local residents and holidaymakers alike,” said EW’s land transport operations manager Bevan Dale.

“They’ll allow people to park the car and take a more relaxing ride between key holiday sites. Or, if you and your friends are drinking alcohol, the buses provide a safe way to get about.”

Mr Dale said the bus services, signalled in the Regional Passenger Transport Plan, followed requests from local community boards and Thames Coromandel District Council.

“We are confident there will be good demand for these services.”

Fares will be $2 for adults and $1 for children. There will be a designated park and ride facility at Hahei.
