Body Located in Counties Manukau District, 4:50pm 24 Dec 2008

Andrew WOONTON a 58 year old Manurewa man went fishing/free diving by himself at Orere Point on 19th December 2008. He was seen by other fisherman launching his boat by himself. Later that day his boat was located unmanned at a popular fishing spot. After a short search his boat was towed and secured.
An extensive search and rescue operation failed to find any sign of him.
This morning (24/12/08), the Police helicopter was conducting a search of the area still looking for the subject. His body was located at the high tide mark about halfway along Orere-Matingarahi Road. (Approx 6 km from Orere Point.) The beach area is made up of rough terrain and it would have been some time until the body would have been discovered without the use of the police helicopter.
