Methven Police report that at approximately 8.30pm a vehicle travelling between Christchurch and Queenstown via State Highway 72 failed to take a moderate left bend, lost control and left the road.

A 27 year old female passenger died at the scene.

The male driver suffered minor to moderate injuries and was taken to Ashburton Hospital. Both occupants were from Christchurch.

Police Serious Crash unit has attended and will continue their scene examination in the morning.

The Police investigation will continue with further comment by Senior Constable Seque of the Methven Police.
