EUFA member 91 year old Tauranga Woman Mrs Gwen Harrison and her family and friends are heading the charge to protest this coming Friday morning, against recovery action by BlueChip and Associated financiers, in particular Challenger Mortgages and GE Money.

The two companies are continuing to recover money either by interest payments or through heavy handed legal action. The money, in interest payments, they have taken in the past year from frightened home owners, has gone directly out of New Zealand to these overseas companies.

EUFA made the call for a freeze on recovery action in March 2008, shortly after the Bluechip companies went into liquidation and soon after the Serious Fraud Office began preliminary investigations.

EUFA Continue to make the same call that the Finance Companies are premature in taking hard handed recovery action and/or interest payments. It is questionable if these companies have the legal power to be taking this action.

Mid last year Mrs Harrison, was threatened with eviction from her home by Challenger Mortgages (Re BlueChip). This incident received media coverage after Law Firm Sanderson and Weir had Mrs Harrison served a document at her bedside one evening when she was ill.

As a result of the media coverage, a very generous anonymous donor paid $8k to pay the interest payments for Mrs Harrison to Challenger. They reportedly received the $8k - but now the money has run out, Challenger, has again sent a threatening letter to Mrs Harrison. Mrs Harrison’s deadline to pay the interest on the BlueChip scam was last Friday, making Mrs Harrison's situation very insecure and frightening.

Mrs Harrison has lived at 233 Waihi Road for 61 years and has raised her children and Grandchildren on this property.

Coordinator of EUFA Suzanne Edmonds said from Auckland today. “Recovery action is outrageous under the circumstances and it seems that we need to start making a very loud noise, because so far the victims are getting ignored and getting no protection from the bulling tactics of these two companies.”

Mrs Edmonds added “While an investigation is taking place in the Serious Fraud Office over BlueChip Companies, it is unbelievable that recovery is legally able to continue.”
