Fatal Crash in Tasman District, 1:30pm

At about 1.30pm Sunday the 25th of January 2009, Police attended a motor vehicle crash on Graham Street, Blenheim.

The tragic situation involved a 3 year old child, who was using the footpath while pushing and riding a small foot scooter.

The boy was struck by a vehicle being reversed out of a driveway on that street. The vehicle contained two female occupants.

As the vehicle and child came together on the footpath at the driveway, the child was seriously injured.

Ambulance staff were on the scene a short time later, they took the young boy to Wairau Hospital in Blenheim.
The boy died at Wairau Hospital about an hour later.

Blenheim Police are carrying out an investigation in relation to this crash. They have Blenheim Detectives and the Serious Crash Unit to assist in determining the cause of this incident.

The young boy killed in the crash is from Blenheim as are the occupants of the vehicle.
