Exhibition sites at the 2009 South Island Agricultural Field Days are expected to be booked out within the next few days.

The Field Days organising committee has been overwhelmed with the response to the 2009 Field Days with more than 260 rural focused companies and organisations booking sites. Many have booked multiple sites and as a result only 15 sites remain.

Committee chairman David James is pleased with the demand and has no doubt the remaining sites will soon be booked.

“If you use the booking of exhibition sites as a barometer for how rural New Zealand is faring given the global situation then it’s not looking too bad,” he says.

“From analysing the bookings it is obvious that cropping and broad acre agriculture are particularly positive.

“The response should be reassuring for all New Zealanders given our primary industries generate 64 percent of New Zealand’s merchandise export earnings,” he says.

The three-day event hosts the largest number of comparative demonstrations in the country with 80 to 100 demonstrations a day. It attracts between 20,000 and 25,000 people and this year will host about 400 delegates from the 7th World Potato Congress which is being held in Christchurch.
